Beautiful hanging basket in Royal Wootton Bassett
August arrived and I was late!
Apologies for sending this out a couple of days later than it should have been sent. Obviously the heat has befuddled my brain – well that’s my excuse.
Like all the months this year, they seem to be passing by far too quickly. I hope you’ve all been safe in this heat, and especially if you’ve travelled abroad where they’ve had wild fires.
I mentioned last month that I was taking part in my first Swindon Poetry Café – Open Mic night - I loved it, and have booked onto the next one in September. It was a wonderful event, with a great audience and some amazing poets performing.

I’ve now plotted out book one of the Ravensey Mysteries and I have a title, which I’m keeping quiet at the moment… This week I’ll actually be making a start on the writing, so I’m feeling excited about that. My seventh novel!
Have any of you been to see the film, ‘The Odyssey’? We went to see it the other weekend and loved it. Yes, lots of people are moaning because certain things weren’t included in this version, but that aside – we both really enjoyed it. I didn’t fall asleep once, which says a lot. At the other end of the scale, we went to see the latest Spiderman film, and there were a few bits where I nearly nodded off. However, the action scenes were good and we got a free Spiderman pin badge!
We both love films, but only go to the cinema to see things that really grab us. When I write, I see my stories as if they’re a film. I can see them very visually.
A request for all those of you who read books - please, please write a review if you enjoyed them. Us authors apprecaite reviews on Amazon, and they actually help to gain our books more recognition. The more reviews you get, the more your books become searchable on the Amazon system. Reviews don’t have to be long, just a few words about why you liked the book (without giving plot away). Thank you for all of us scribers.
For those of you who are local to Swindon, I’m running a small Memoir workshop at the Little Gem café in Royal Wootton Bassett on Sunday 13th September 10.00 to 14.00, £40.00 including drink and a grazing board. There are limited numbers, so if you’re interested email
If you have a story to tell but don’t know how to get started, then come along and learn more about writing memoirs.
Have a lovely August, and if you’re going on holiday have a wonderful time!
